Zinc-Nickel Plating 

Zinc-Nickel is a high performance coating that offers exceptional corrosion resistance particularly for parts used in harsh environments. Alloying Nickel with Zinc creates a unique composition that will corrode slower than zinc alone.

Zinc-Nickel (Zn-Ni) coatings are corrosion resistant finishes that are electroplated onto the surface of parts. They typically contain between 12-18 % Nickel, and provide superior protection over zinc plating. Zn-Ni plating is common in the automotive industry, and are often REACH and RoHS complaint if hexavalent chromium is not used as a conversion coating. Zn-Ni plating without conversion or top coatings are dull grey in color.

PTFE Coating

PTFE is short for Polytetrafluoroethylene, also called Fluorocarbon,a chemical applied to common bolting materials (such as B7 stud bolts) to provide corrosion and chemical resistance.

Some other common coatings for PTFE coated fasteners are Teflon® and Xylan®. In this article, we’ll refer to all of them as PTFE.

PTFE coated studs have been used for many years within the bolting industry, especially in any application that requires corrosion resistance or in offshore applications (salt spray is hard on Grade B7 material). PTFE is also useful if you’ve had “galling” and need a lower breakout torque for safe removal.

Production Process of Zinc Nickel Plating Fluorocarbon ZN-NI Plating PTFE Xylan Coated Stud Bolt

1st: Apply a base-coating such as Phosphate, Zinc, Zinc-Nickel, Hot Dip Galvanized or Xylar 1. The base coat has an average thickness of 10-15µ (except for HDG).
2nd: Glass-shot blasting to roughen the surface of the fasteners to be coated.
3rd: Having fasteners coated with PTFE Xylan 1070 or Xylan 1424 in the required color. 
4th: Oven and curling the coated fasteners
