Aluminum plate 5083 H116 VS 5083 H321
5083-H116 aluminum and 5083-H321 aluminum are made from the same Aluminum Alloy grade 5083 material. They have the same alloy composition but they show different mechanical properties as a result of different processing (different Temper)
Both of 5083-H116 and H321 grade are widely used in the production of the tank body, automobile fuel tanks, bus body panel, ship building, etc.
We would like to discuss the difference between Aluminum plate 5083 H116 VS 5083 H321
H116 – Applies to products manufactured from alloys in the 5xxx series, for which the magnesium content is 3% nominal or more. Products are normally strain hardened at the last operation to specified stable tensile property limits and meet specified levels of corrosion-resistance in accelerated type corrosion tests. They are suitable for continuous service at temperatures no greater than 150°F (66°C). Corrosion tests include inter-granular and exfoliation.
H321
To achieve this temper, 5083 is strain hardened, and then stabilized.
5083 H116 has good corrosion resistance, H321 has better corrosion resistance and more stable performance. The mechanical properties of H116 and H321 are similar, and both of them have good corrosion resistance after coating. As far as I know, both of them can be used in ship construction, and more mechanical properties need to be provided by professional aluminium plate manufacturers.
Aluminum Alloy 5083 is an aluminium–magnesium alloy with magnesium and traces of manganese and chromium. It is highly resistant to attack by seawater and industrial chemicals.
