ASTM A815 WPS UNS S31803 Elbow LR SR ,Tee,Reducer,1.4462 Pipe fittings ASME B16.9
ASTM A815 WPS UNS S31803 pipe fittings, also known as EN 1.4462 duplex stainless steel fittings, are high-strength butt-weld fittings designed for pressure piping systems operating in corrosive and demanding environments. These fittings include long radius (LR) elbows, short radius (SR) elbows, tees, and reducers, and are manufactured in full compliance with ASME B16.9 dimensional standards.
ASTM A815 WPS S31803 butt weld fittings combine the advantages of austenitic and ferritic stainless steels, offering superior resistance to stress corrosion cracking, pitting, and crevice corrosion, along with significantly higher mechanical strength than conventional austenitic grades such as 304 and 316.

What Is ASTM A815?
ASTM A815 is a standard specification issued by ASTM International covering wrought ferritic, ferritic/austenitic (duplex), and martensitic stainless steel pipe fittings for pressure piping and high-temperature services.
This standard applies to butt-weld fittings such as elbows, tees, reducers, and caps, manufactured by forging, forming, or welding.
The ASME SA815 WPS UNS S31803 seamless elbows are manufactured from ASME SA790 / ASTM A790 UNS S31803 seamless pipes, ensuring full compliance with the applicable ASME/ASTM material and manufacturing standards for duplex stainless steel seamless fittings.
Duplex stainless steels are a family of stainless steels. These are called duplex (or austenitic-ferritic) grades because their metallurgical structure consists of two phases, austenite (face-centered cubic lattice) and ferrite (body centered cubic lattice) in roughly equal proportions. They are designed to provide better corrosion resistance, particularly chloride stress corrosion and chloride pitting corrosion.Duplex stainless steel UNS S31803 (and the other specifications listed below) is described as a duplex stainless steel with a microstructure of 50:50 austenite and ferrite. The steel combines good mechanical strength (typically up to over 480 MPa yield strength) and ductility with moderate to
good corrosion resistance in a variety of environments.
Duplex stainless steels are usually divided into three groups based on their pitting corrosion resistance, characterised by the pitting resistance equivalence number, PREN = %Cr + 3.3 %Mo + 16 %N.
Standard duplex (PREN range: 28–38)
Typically Grade EN 1.4462 (also called 2205). It is typical of the mid-range of properties and is perhaps the most used today
By agreement, the alloy can be supplied with a PREN (Pitting Resistance Equivalent) at >34 which ensures that the resistance to pitting corrosion is as high as possible for this alloy grade.
A815 WPS UNS S31803 Pipe Fittings Chemical Composition
| Chemical Element | % Present |
|---|---|
| Carbon (C) | 0.0 – 0.03 |
| Chromium (Cr) | 21.00 – 23.00 |
| Manganese (Mn) | 2.00 max |
| Silicon (Si) | 1.00 max |
| Phosphorous (P) | 0.0 – 0.03 |
| Sulphur (S) | 0.0 – 0.02 |
| Nickel (Ni) | 4.50 – 6.50 |
| Nitrogen (N) | 0.08 – 0.20 |
| Molybdenum (Mo) | 2.50 – 3.50 |
| Iron (Fe) | Balance |
The PREN is obtained by applying a mathematical formula to the chemical composition of a steel so that PREN = %Cr + (3.3 x %Mo) + (16 x %N). Using this formula 31803 Duplex stainless has a PREN of 35 which when compared with the PREN of Type 304 and Type 316 (18 and 24 respectively) demonstrates its superior corrosion resistance.
In short, due to its higher strength, longer component life cycle, and lower alloy composition, Duplex stainless can be a very cost effective solution to an engineering problem.
