What Is a Companion Flange?

A Companion Flange is a specialized API threaded flange commonly used in oilfield wellhead systems, Christmas tree equipment, and high-pressure pipeline connections. It is designed to match and connect with another flange using bolts and ring gasket sealing surfaces.

Companion flanges typically feature a threaded outlet connection and are sometimes referred to as threaded flanges. They are widely used to connect threaded pipe systems to flanged equipment, providing reliable sealing and mechanical strength.

These flanges are manufactured according to API standards and are commonly used in high-pressure applications such as 5000 PSI, 10000 PSI, and 15000 PSI oilfield equipment.

A Companion Flange, sometimes referred to as a hub, is a flange that corresponds to another flange. It has bolt holes that align with another flange is a trait of this type of flange. Usually a companion flange features a Raised Face (RF) or Ring Joint (RTJ), with a threaded outlet. Also called a Threaded Flange by some people.

The companion flange is an important component of a pipeline, a plumbing system or wellhead christmas tree. In most situations, this flange is attached to the flange of another pipe and then the pipeline is assembled to fit tightly between the two flanges. A threaded companion flange is also used on a plastic pipe when adding a threaded iron pipe into the pipeline.
