Aluminum 5083,UNS A95083, ISO AlMg4.5Mn, Aluminum 5083 is an extremely versatile heat treatable aluminum alloy due to its content of silicon and magnesium. 6061 has a wide range of mechanical and corrosion resistance properties as well as having most of the good qualities of aluminum. 6061 is used in a many applications from aircraft structures, yacht construction, truck bodies, bicycle frames to screw machine parts.

Alloy 5083 is a non-heat-treatable 4½% magnesium, 0.15% chromium, 0.7% manganese alloy commonly available in flat rolled plate from a range of producing mills. Like all the 5000-series high magnesium alloys 5083 achieves a high strength by cold working,enabling a series of “H” tempers; 5083 is the highest strength of any of these alloys.Alloy 5083 is best known material for ship building.

Alloy 5083 also retains exceptional strength after welding. It has the highest strength of the non-heat treatable alloys but is not recommended for use in temperatures in excess of 65°C.
