A gasket is a mechanical seal which fills the space between two or more mating surfaces,  to prevent leakage from or into the joined objects while under compression.

Here Flange gaskets are used to create a static seal between 2 flanges faces, at various operating conditions, with varied pressure and temperature ratings.
