ASTM-A-350LF2 is one of the most common forged carbon/ low-alloy steel grade for forged flanges, forged fittings and valves intended primarily for low-temperature service and requiring notch toughness testing.

ASTM A350 LF1, LF2 AND LF3 CARBON/ALLOY STEELS

GENERAL CHARACTERISTICS

These grades of steel are used as pipeline steels and also in the production of forged flanges. They are suitable for use down to –20ºF (LF1,) –50ºF (LF2) and –150ºF (LF3.)

ASTM A350 / ASME SA-350 grade LF2 Class 1 & Class 2, Both of them  have the same chemical composition and mechanical properties. Even the allowable stresses of Class 1 and Class 2 in ASME Codes are the same. The main characteristic that distinguishes Class 1 from Class 2 is its minimum applicable temperature. The minimum applicable temperatures are -50°F [-46°C] for LF2 Class 1 and -0°F [-18°C] for LF2 Class 2, respectively. The minimum applicable temperature is also the standard Charpy V-notch impact test temperature.

So generally ASME SA-350 grade LF2 CL2 can be used even lower temperature than ASME SA-350 grade LF2 CL1 grade.

ASTM A350 LF2 Class 1 Flange is  compatible with ASTM A333 Grade 6 Pipe and LTCS A420 WPL6 Weld Fittings.

Which are all used for low temperature working conditions.

ASTM A333 Gr 6 is a specific grade of low-temperature carbon steel (LTCS) pipe used in various industrial applications. It is a seamless and welded carbon and alloy steel pipe intended for use at low temperatures, typically above -50°F (-45°C).

ASTM A420 is the standard specification for pipe fittings of carbon steel and alloy steel used for low temperature services. WPL6 is the most used grade

ASTM A420 WPL6 pipe fittings is commonly produced from the steel pipes of ASTM A333 Grade 6.
