ASTM A182 F53 Forged Flange Specification (PDF)

ASTM A182 F53 covers forged or rolled super duplex stainless steel flanges, fittings, valves, and related parts for high-temperature and corrosive service.

This specification applies to material grade F53 (UNS S32750), widely used in offshore, oil & gas, petrochemical, and seawater applications due to its high strength and excellent corrosion resistance.

Material Grade: ASTM A182 F53 (Super Duplex Stainless Steel)

  • Standard: ASTM A182 / ASME SA182

  • Grade: F53

  • Material Type: Super Duplex Stainless Steel

  • Product Form: Forged Pipe Flanges

  • UNS Number: S32750

ASTM A182 F53 forged flanges offer very high mechanical strength and exceptional resistance to pitting, crevice corrosion, and chloride stress corrosion cracking.

Chemical Composition (Typical, %)

  • Carbon (C): ≤ 0.03

  • Chromium (Cr): 24.0 – 26.0

  • Nickel (Ni): 6.0 – 8.0

  • Molybdenum (Mo): 3.0 – 5.0

  • Nitrogen (N): 0.24 – 0.32

  • Manganese (Mn): ≤ 1.20

  • Silicon (Si): ≤ 0.80

  • Phosphorus (P): ≤ 0.035

  • Sulfur (S): ≤ 0.020

Chemical limits are defined by ASTM A182 for Grade F53.

Mechanical Properties (Minimum Requirements)

  • Tensile Strength: ≥ 800 MPa

  • Yield Strength (0.2% Offset): ≥ 550 MPa

  • Elongation: ≥ 15%

These properties make ASTM A182 F53 forged flanges suitable for extreme pressure and corrosive environments.

Heat Treatment

ASTM A182 F53 forged flanges are supplied in the solution-annealed condition followed by rapid quenching. Proper heat treatment is critical to ensure correct phase balance and corrosion resistance.

Manufacturing Process

ASTM A182 F53 forged flanges are manufactured by:

  • Hot forging or ring rolling

  • Solution annealing and quenching

  • Machining of flange faces and bores

  • Final inspection and testing

The forging process ensures refined grain structure and superior mechanical integrity.

Dimensions & Tolerances

Dimensions of ASTM A182 F53 forged flanges are governed by applicable flange standards, such as:

  • ASME B16.5

  • ASME B16.47 Series A & B

Dimensional controls include outside diameter, thickness, bore size, facing finish (RF, RTJ), and machining tolerances.

Testing & Inspection

Each ASTM A182 F53 forged flange may be subjected to:

  • Chemical analysis

  • Mechanical testing

  • Impact testing (when specified)

  • Non-destructive testing (UT / MT, if required)

  • Dimensional and visual inspection

Mill Test Certificates (EN 10204 3.1) are typically supplied.

Applications

  • Offshore Oil & Gas Platforms

  • Subsea Pipelines

  • Petrochemical Processing

  • Desalination Plants

  • Marine & Shipbuilding

  • High-Pressure Piping Systems

ASTM A182 F53 forged flanges are widely used where maximum strength and corrosion resistance are required.
